The Name Game

That's what I've been calling it for YEARS when I'd make Jake "play" with me about what we would name our future children. He hated this game for the most part. Well, now the game is over! (At least until we start thinking about the next child!) I wrote the name on a wine bottle at the restaurant Friday night (they have them lined up the whole way down the wall). Can you see it?!

His name will be Collins David Goodin.

Collins was Jake's paternal grandfather's middle name (who died a year ago today, so it's a hard day for Jake and his family). Papaw went by R.C. for the majority of his life, but he was Collins early on. Mimi still calls him Collins and a few other people do. I only ever knew him as Papaw.

David was my maternal grandfather's middle name. My papaw went by David his whole life and died when I was four years old. I still remember a few things about him.

We will call the baby Collins. It's weird actually knowing what it is now AND having a name to go with it! We are happy with the name because it's meaningful to us, isn't too "weird," but also not too common. It's just right :)

Gender Reveal Pics

The baby's morning beverage to get him going ;)

Yes, I asked the doctor to take our pic. Yes, she looked at me like I was crazy.

He's in there!

Our celebration dinner at DePalma's where we discussed and settled on a name for our little guy!

We're having a....

BOY!!!!!!!!!
  • Jake and I went for our ultrasound yesterday morning at 8:30am. He stopped on the way and bought me a Mountain Dew because everyone has told us it helps the baby to cooperate (i.e., hypes it up on caffeine so it moves all over the place).
  • We diverted from the plan to find out at dinner. I still think it would have been neat to do, but there was no way I could have put up with my husband for that long after seeing how he was acting at 8:15am. In the waiting room he was pulling out eyebrows, bouncing his leg, talking about how he doesn't even know why he would go to work today because he can't possibly do anything, etc. Yet he kept telling me it was fine to do it "my way" and we can wait till dinner to know.
  • Once we got in the ultrasound room, I asked the tech if we'd be able to tell ourselves just from looking at the screen. She said it really depended on what the baby does. I told her the "plan" and she said, "why don't we start and y'all let me know as we go along?" Okay. We saw the baby...head, spine, feet, etc. A few minutes later:
Jake: Can you tell what it is?
Tech: Oh yeah, I could tell five minutes ago when I first started.
Me: How much percent sure are you?
Tech: 100% sure.
Jake: How do you know?
Tech: I've been doing this 17 years...I know what I'm looking for!
Me: So you could tell when I walked in, huh?!
Tech: I'm not that good!
Jake and Me: Just go ahead and tell us...
Tech: There's his little wee wee right there!!
  • We are so excited! Jake teared up and said, "Papaw would be so proud."
  • She gave us a onesie with blue writing on it (hospital name) which I wasn't expecting. It's cute!
  • Everything was fine with the baby and me. I have gained another 10 lbs. This is a pattern. But no one fussed at me so I guess it's okay.
  • Next month I will have to do the dreaded diabetes test thing. I hope I pass because they say it's no fun if you have to go back a second time.
  • We won't have any more ultrasounds unless a need arises. Baby G weighs 1 lb. 1 oz. right now! His heart rate was 146. I think I'm measuring 2 days ahead of schedule, but they didn't change my due date.
  • He was very active...arched his back a lot. The tech said she could tell I drank caffeine before :) We bought the DVD ($11) of this ultrasound, but decided not to do the 4D one.
  • I'm so thankful everything has gone smoothly so far. I feel like it's a miracle everytime something is "normal."
  • Jake and I went out to dinner last night at DePalma's, our favorite place in Tuscaloosa. We discussed names and have settled on one, but want to tell family first.
  • I just talked to Haylee a few minutes ago. She's in Europe with a friend on a two week vacation. Since I thought we wouldn't know until last night I told her to call me this morning (and she doesn't have international calling on her phone so she had to use her friend's). I told her she was right...it's a boy! She was really excited. I went ahead and told her the name and she just repeated it back to me. I said, "Do you like it?" She said, "I do like it; I just can't really talk right now because I'm trying not to cry in public"!! So sweet. She also sent me the sweetest card for mother's day along with the movie Up. She is already the best aunt ever!
  • I guess I can shut up now...think I've covered everything. Oh, except I bought a changing table (really a dresser) from Craigslist yesterday after I got back to my office! Haha! I've been checking a lot lately and this one was only $40. Katie told me if I ended up not wanting it she'd buy it from me, so I went ahead. Jake hasn't seen it, but he's going to pick it up today :) It needs painting and a change of hardware, but I think it'll end up being cute. I hope so!

The Crib Came In!

While we were at the beach last week I got a call from JC Penney's saying our online order was delivered to the store! Yay! We ordered this bed back in February and it was on back order till May. I went ahead and bought bedding too...I couldn't wait! I went for gender neutral b/c I just prefer it to all pink or all blue anyway. If it's a girl I think I can 'girl it up' some, but this should work fine for a boy.

My sweet husband wanted to put the crib up on Monday night...the very night he went and picked it up. He's good about not putting things off. It wasn't too difficult to assemble...Jake did it pretty quickly. It's a basic design. I didn't want anything too big or fancy since the room is so small. We love looking in there now and seeing that sweet crib! I ironed the dust ruffle, but still need to wash the sheet. Jake wouldn't let me Monday night...he wanted it on there to see :)

We find out the gender TOMORROW!! (Assuming the baby cooperates...which I have a feeling won't happen...haha.) The plan is to let the ultrasound technician write down the gender and put it in an envelope for us to open together privately at dinner tomorrow night. However, I also have feeling this won't work for some reason. I'm thinking we'll take one look at the screen and know what it is! If that's the case, that's fine. I just want to try this way b/c I heard about it several years ago and always thought it was a neat way to find out.

For the record, Jake and I both think it will be a boy. This is based on absolutely nothing. I personally just always thought I'd have a boy first...even when I was little and played house. I can totally see a girl too though and will be THRILLED either way!

Dillon, Mary Loyd, Tasha, and Ellen are all convinced it's a girl. So is Haylee's friend, Lorraine, who said she is 100% sure it's a girl. Most people think boy...especially Haylee, Duffy, and Kyle and Haley. I can't wait to find out! What would I do if we had to wait 9 months for this?!

Mother's Day

My granny invited my mom, Aunt Tammy, and me to a breakfast held at her church last Sunday morning. Each church member gets their own table which they decorate any way they want and the men of the church cook and serve food for those they invite. It's a neat idea! It was funny to see these beautiful, elegant tables and then have the southern men of the church come around and sit a big, plastic bowl full of eggs down on them for us to serve ourselves. Hilarious! The food was really good, though.

Mama and me before the b'fast. We both hate this picture, but whatever.

Granny did a good job with her decorations!

Aunt Tammy, Granny, me, and Mom. Love them :)

Love these two, too :) Maw, me, and Jake after church at Mont Rose

Garage Sale

Jake's mom and my mom came to visit me the weekend of May 1st to help with a garage sale. Jake was playing in a golf tournament in Bay Springs and couldn't help. Our subdivision has a community garage sale twice a year. This is the first time we've participated on the selling end of things. It is SO convenient to have it as a community wide thing. I didn't have to advertise a thing and we sold all but one bag of stuff! I made $280...not complaining :) It was VERY helpful to have the moms there...and fun! They took turns driving around the neighborhood shopping. Each bought something for the baby (or a baby...some for my niece and nephews). I told them to look for a changing table which I still need, but no luck. Maybe soon! After the sale we went to Newk's and I introduced them to the strawberry cake. It is my absolute favorite!
