Hoo Owl, Poo Owl

First, let me give Amy all the credit for the title of this post. I told her this story, she said that, and it is simply the perfect title! Let me explain.

Jake took Collins to the game on Saturday! The 11am game on September 6th, after getting in from a trip to Miami around midnight. Hot!

Jake had met a girl at the airport who was also headed to T-town because her sister is a cheerleader at UA. He showed her a picture of Collins and she said for him to try to find her and let Collins get his picture made with her sister. How crazy is it that he actually ran into the girl at the stadium full of around 100k people!?! But he did. So she found her sister and Collins got his pic made with a cheerleader and Big Al. Lovely! Jake said the other team's mascot, a "hoo owl" as Collins says, was also there and Collins got to high-five him.

As they were leaving:

Collins: Daddy, I don't think I had too good of a time.
Jake: What do you mean? You got to see Big Al, a cheerleader, the Owl...
Collins: Yeah, but I didn't get to hug the Owl.
Jake: Well, that's okay...you high-five'd him.
Collins: But I didn't hug him. I need to hug him.
Jake: We're not going back, he's probably gone anyway...probably had to go to the bathroom or something. Let's go.
***they step outside gate***
Collins: Daddy, I think I have to poo-poo.
Jake: Son!?!
Security Guard: No. (I paraphrased.)
***Jake tells her Collins has to go to the bathroom and that he can either go right here or in that bathroom a few feet from them. She lets them back in. But only with Jake's sunglasses as collateral! Jake finally gets Collins on the toilet in the hot, steamy, stinky bathroom.
Collins: Where do you think that Hoo Owl is, Daddy?
Jake: Son. You better doo-doo. (lol)
Collins: I can't, Daddy, it won't come out.

And so that's how we got the title of this post. Collins tricked Jake into going to poo because he wanted to see the hoo.

I wasn't there, so of course I think this story is hilarious!

Meeting Rex

We got to meet sweet little Rex Brantley Oliver when he was about three or four weeks old! We went without our kids so we could focus on Bryan and Beth's kids :) John Rivers was with his grandparents, so I just held Rex pretty much the whole time. Such a sweet, snuggly baby boy!

This picture is obviously not of our visit. But until I get that one, I had to steal from Beth's Facebook page! Photographer is Kim Box. Sweet brothers!

Update!

Conversations with Collins

  • Asking to do something after I had said no, Collins followed up: "Can I one day?" "Yes, one day." "Mommy, is it one day?"
  • "The B Ali Ali" (B-I-B-L-E)
  • "Mommy, I can't clip" (he meant snap)
  • I told him I didn't like a song that was on in the car. He said, "Then turn it." Duh.
  • Protested about some medicine he had to take tasting bad. I told him he had to take it and it's not that bad. "Taste it."
  • We gave the baby his own bottle of mouthwash to use and it was like we had handed him the world on a silver platter. So proud!
  • He takes showers now. Not totally unassisted, but still. He's getting so big!
  • While we were at Hudson's birthday party changing clothes (had to borrow some swim trunks), Collins noticed a picture of Hudson as a newborn where he was wearing a hospital bracelet. He said, "That breaks my heart." He thought the bracelet was handcuffs!
  • One of his current favorite songs on the kids Bible songs CD we have is "Higher Ground." He calls it "that song that says, 'Lord, lift me uuuup'"!
  • One night he sneezed on me without covering his mouth. He laughed and said, "I blessed on you!"
  • Was talking about "bump beds" one day. I said, "You mean bunk beds." He said, "No Mama, bump beds...say bump..." (trying to teach me how to do it)!
  • "Oh my word...your flowers grew!" When I changed out the flowers in the kitchen from baby's breath to lilies :) Then he said about the bulbs, "Those flowers have okra on them." ha!
  • Talking to Jake about Aunt Haylee coming the next day: "I love Aunt Haylee; she's my sister. I had good dreams about her at nap time today. She makes my heart happy." :)
  • I have taught my son three jokes that he absolutely loves telling others! 1) Have you bought your tickets yet? To the gun show! (flexes muscle) 2) Guess what? Chicken butt! 2) Have you been under there? I made you say underwear!
  • He really likes to talk about Heaven and what all we'll do when we're there. Love that!
  • "If you do that, I'm gonna be soakin' mad!"
  • Tried to get him to play the quiet game in the car, which he refers to as "Qwite Mouse." He stinks at this game. Talks the whole time about how you have to be quiet.
  • Frequently says things about "the whole wide woold" and that Hadley's toys are "gool toys."
  • I have an ulcer on my bottom lip from where my braces constantly hit. Collins is convinced it's a seed. Tried to pick it off for me. Ouch.
  • He was sad the other day when he told me, "I made a bad choice today." He was referring to when he stood on the steps when Ms. Jordan told him not to. He found her at school the next day to apologize. :)
  • Offers to show us how tall he is, how big his muscles are, and/or how high he can jump approximately 20x a day.
  • About the song, "I'm H-A-P-P-Y..." he asked, "Did they say PP?"

We were referred to Dr. Mestre in B'ham who is a pediatric GI dr. The reason is because he's still on reflux medicine and should have outgrown needing it by now. I am not impressed with what they want to do, so we're still just taking the medicine and livin' life.

Playing in the waiting room!

The best part about the dr's visit in Birmingham...lunch with Jessica and Sara Helen!

Quad Time

On Labor Day we had a family picnic at the Quad. It can sure be a lot of work, but it's worth it! We really did have a fun, relaxing time once we got there :)
