"Love You"
Collins said "Love you" for the first time last night :) And since then, we've made him say it about 20 times. We love hearing it.
We also make him say "hair" a lot because he says it so preciously southern: "heee ahh."

New Look
Do you like the new blog look?! It's been different for a while now (thanks to my dear friend, Katie, who serves unofficially as my blog creative director since I'm challenged), but now it's a different color.
I emailed Katie recently to say I don't know what I was thinking choosing yellow as a background. I want to be a cheery yellow person, but I'm just not. Mellow gray is more me. Interesting there's a soft drink called Mello Yellow because, in my opinion, the two are opposite. I could never drive a yellow car...what if you were in a bad mood? How could you possibly do it???
Anyhoo...thanks again, Katie!!

One and a Half!
Guess who's a year and a half old today?! Collins!
Guess who's happy he can stop speaking in months?! Jake!
Jake told me this morning he's been waiting on this day so he could just speak in terms of years. I told him to enjoy it while he can because when 21 months rolls around, we'll have to go back to month talk. It's just not accurate to say 1.5, and we're certainly not going to jump to 2 before it's time. I think you're supposed to talk in months as long as the clothes are sized that way. That's the best I can figure.

Anyway, Collins posed for us a little this morning and we measured him against his growth chart. I think he was just below 34 inches! He weighs about 26.5 lbs. He wears a size 5 diaper, but is just about to outgrow those I think. He still sleeps in footed sleepers (size 18-24 month) because I think they're adorable and so does Haylee :)
Collins is putting together more and more words and I love it! His little voice is so sweet. I've noticed in the past couple of days he's calling Jake Daddy instead of just DaDa. Some new words/phrases are:
"Go, MawMaw (or Mama), Go!!!" MawMaw taught him to say that when we come to a green traffic light!
"No Maaam"
"Bug...ughhh!" (as in, 'yuk! stay out bug!')
"Noonahhs" or "naa noos" (noodles)
"San itch" (sandwich)
"Da Da twuck"
"Hey Stetch, Bye Stetch" (Stretch)
"Da Da purse" (Jake's laptop bag...love this one! Jake does not :)
"Rooo Tide"
"Puh Pose" (as in, 'it's not an uh-oh if you do it on purpose'!)
I know there are other things I think are cute, but of course can't remember half of them when I start blogging about it. Collins is at a really fun age, yet also an age that he wants to test limits. He gets popped on his booty a good bit these days. All normal things from what I'm told, but a bit stubborn. When he gets mad at us for correcting him, he spits...like a zurbert kind of spit. It's actually kind of cute, but we can never let on that we believe that. He also tries hitting and/or kicking from time to time, and a lot of our tifs come at mealtime. Not sure why. Who's in a bad mood when it's time to eat??
Very hard to believe we've had out little bird for a whole year and a half now. Time is flying, but we knew it would. We love him so much and are well aware of how blessed we are to have a happy, healthy 'baby'!

Weekend at the Lake
After Spring Break week, we headed to Mississippi for the weekend to hang out with Grammy and Poppa. Grammy had SB too, but was busy keeping Raelee, Tyler, and Colby some of the week, and we had lots of company, so we just decided to devote the weekend to the Goodin family :)
On Saturday morning, Poppa and Jake went fishing, so Grammy, Collins and I went to see Mimi. Collins fell asleep in the truck on the way over, but still maintained contact with his orange ball :)

Later Saturday afternoon, Collins got to try out the new life vest Daddy bought him! Poppa and Daddy caught some fish (which we ate for supper and they were so good), and after the two of them finished cleaning the fish they took Collins and me for a ride in the boat!

Nanny drove down from Laurel to hang out with us and eat dinner. Collins didn't let her hug and kiss on him like she wanted to, but you could still tell he loves his Nanny!

I wish the weather would stay just like it was this weekend. The lack of humidity is awesome!

Spring Break 2012
Last week was Spring Break, one of my favorite parts of being a University of Alabama employee! It always comes just when you need it, too...right in the middle of everything.
Haylee got to come home this year again! She was here from Sunday through Thursday. Of course, the week flew by because it never feels like she's home long enough.
Jake picked her up from the airport on Sunday and they got home just before Collins woke up from his nap. He'd been saying, "Hay-yee?!" all week when we'd ask, "Who's coming to see us this weekend??!" so it was good for us to finally be able to deliver :) MawMaw and PawPaw came over for the afternoon because otherwise PawPaw wouldn't be able to see Haylee at all.
Haylee and I were able to spend all our time with Collins on Monday and Tuesday. Monday we ate at Jalapeno's and went to Hobby Lobby.
Tuesday, we went to the Hands on Museum and to have ice cream al fresco.
Wednesday, MawMaw came to town and we were supposed to let Collins stay with Mrs. Wilda while the three of us got facials, but her granddaughters had been sick so we changed out plans. MawMaw kept Collins (what she preferred anyway) while Haylee, Jake, and I had lunch, then Haylee and I shopped a little and had coffee (al fresco again!) at a downtown shop called Chloe's Cup. We found a slide for Collins at T.J. Maxx...yay! Haylee and MawMaw went to eat at Chuck's Wednesday evening so they could have some one-on-one time.
Thursday, Granny and Maw came to visit and we all went to eat at Fifth and Main in Downtown Northport. I took her back to the airport that afternoon and begrudgingly gave my sister back to stinkin' NYC.
It was great weather, great company, and great not being on a schedule (other than naptime)! I only wish Jake could participate in Spring Break one year soon!

Spooning
Collins is learning to eat with a spoon and fork by himself. He's attempted it some before, but not too successfully until earlier this month. He is quite proud of himself! I'm proud, too, but I hate the mess. Really it's more the anticipation of a mess than the actual mess itself. You just know that any time that fork or spoon is loaded, you could very well have it thrown in your face or on the floor at any second. Or, he could poke out his eye, which seems to almost happen every meal. But I know things have to get ugly before they get pretty!

Bath Time Terrors

The pictures above were taken about two weeks ago. I'm glad I asked Jake to take them because we may never again have the opportunity! Collins has decided he has a severe dislike for baths. He is terrified. We have no idea why.
According to Baby Center, and a Parenting magazine, and people who commented on my Facebook status, this is normal. Especially for his age. Reasons may be because his depth perception isn't accurate, but he's aware that something is going down that mysterious drain. Or maybe he hates the water in his eyes. Or maybe he feels like he's going to slip. As one article puts it, "it would be like suddenly being able to fly; it would be awesome, but freaky."
I don't know what's going on, but I'm trusting that it's just a stage that will pass. In the meantime, we're going to alternate really good wipe-downs with kitchen sink baths, which are still horrifying to him, but not as bad.
Sickies
It's Thursday night. This time last week, we were dealing with one sick little boy. The irony of the picture below is that it was taken during the day last Thursday and Collins looks like he's aware of the misery that would soon ensue.

It was around 8:30pm that we heard Collins cry out from his crib. We figured he had just woken up and would go back to sleep, but Jake went ahead and checked on him just in case. Glad he did. Collins was sitting in a ton of throw up. Bless his little heart...it was like he thought he'd done something wrong. He isn't a fan of a "messss" anyway and says "yuckkk" about all sorts of things. It had to be miserable for him.
We cleaned him up, changed his sheets, put him back down hoping it was something he had eaten and that it was over. Twenty minutes later it happened again. And pretty much every 20 minutes until about 2am. We just sat in the chair and held him while he tried to sleep in between 'sessions.' He wanted both of us in there with him.
It was so pitiful and he was so tired. He has always hated lying on his back and isn't usually a fan of diaper changes for that reason. However, one time after changing him and taking his temp I tried to pick him up again and he fussed to stay down because he was so exhausted. When I finally lay him down at 2am I put him flat on his back. That hasn't happened since he was about a week old, but he didn't budge.
We were still hopeful the next day that maybe it was over and perhaps some food just hadn't agreed with him. Wishful thinking. Jake called to check on him around 10am and Mrs. Wilda said he'd thrown up again and was running a low grade fever. I left work and kept him at home, but he didn't get sick any more. He even ate a decent dinner that evening. That was pretty much the last thing he ate until Monday night. He drank, but just didn't feel like eating and started having diarrhea on Saturday. Fortunately, MawMaw and PawPaw came to help take care of him because I was hosting a baby shower in Pelham on Saturday. Or so I thought...
As I was driving out of the subdivision, I was thinking what a bad idea it was to be in a car. I had to pull over at a gas station coming and going, but was able to get the presents and casseroles to the shower location. I let the other hostesses finish cooking them and I headed straight home as soon as I could. Miserable drive.
When I got home I got straight into bed and pretty much didn't leave the bedroom/bathroom all day. I started feeling better that night, but was still sore and very weak. I was able to rest up some more on Sunday, but Jake got the virus on Saturday night. He started having fewer symptoms on Sunday afternoon, which was when MawMaw started getting sick. PawPaw got her home with only one interstate stop, then he got sick the next day. Terribly mean virus!!
Jake stayed home Monday to rest and we kept Collins home one more day because he still wasn't feeling well or eating very much. I took off most of the day to actually let Jake rest while he was home, but that didn't work out well. When I went to work for my meeting, I felt sure Collins would nap for Jake. He didn't and was actually pretty ill the whole time. When I got back, Jake mentioned maybe Collins has an ear infection since he kept tugging at his left ear and had a runny nose. We took him to the walk-in doctor's office. Double ear infection. He got a shot and an antibiotic. Bless him...he kept pointing to my purse and saying, "Mama, purse...bye bye." Like, "Lady, get your bags and let's get out of here!"
Collins seemed to feel much better after his late afternoon nap on Monday, though still not completely himself. Jake was feeling a little better, but not much. He still had fever, so he took off Tuesday too. He ended up going to the doctor because he was feeling some strange things happening in his chest. They did an EKG, but then determined he was dehydrated. Apparently, being dehydrated can make you feel like you're about to have a heart attack.

So now...a week later, we are almost back to normal. I just had to go in Collins' room and rock him and he still isn't eating like his normal self. But better...much better. Hopefully this ear infection will clear up soon and we'll be good to go for spring break! Just one more week...and Aunt Haylee is coming!!!!

Happy Birthday, Daddy!
Jake turned 31 on February 18! I love celebrating his birthday, even more than my own. I guess because he's close enough to me that it's almost as exciting as my own and I don't have to be modest about it :) Or, maybe just because I love celebrating him. I'm the same way about Collins' birthday now. Yay for my boys!
Collins and I gave Daddy a sweatshirt he wanted:

MawMaw and PawPaw gave Daddy some L.L. Bean shirts:

And Collins racked up on the wrapping paper and tissue paper.

That night MawMaw and PawPaw kept Collins while Jake and I went to Nicks in the Sticks for his birthday dinner. I surprised him with a gift certificate for a massage :)
Notice that picture of Collins in the background. I finally got around to ordering an enlargement and buying a frame for it. We love that picture of our sweet baby!
