"Don't Slap Me"

Today was the first day a stranger noticed I'm pregnant! It was a student sitting at a table in the Ferg (student union) who was there with some other guys asking for Habitat for Humanity donations/raffles.

I noticed him looking at my stomach, so I knew he was at least thinking it. Here's what he actually said:

"Don't slap me if I'm wrong, but are you....?"

Ha ha! I said, "yes, I am"...so neither of us had to suffer through the end of that question. When I walked off after talking for a few seconds he said, "Good luck with that!"

Funny. Out of the mouths of babes/adult college students ;)

Movement

I am now POSITIVE that I can feel Baby G move! I thought I felt him/her the night of April 15th and I'm sure that's what it was, but it's easy to tell yourself it wasn't really the baby. It was so cute when I was lying in bed and woke Jake up to whisper, "Jake...I think I can feel the baby move!" He immediately flung his arm back toward my stomach (in the middle of a deep sleep, I'm sure). I said, "No, honey...I don't think you can feel it yet...I can!" Sweet. Now, if this child grows up to be an accountant we'll know that April 15th really was the first time I felt it move ;)

The day I became 100% sure was last Friday, April 23rd. We were on our way to see Scott and Ann in Georgia (and pick up our new hardwood floors...yay!) and I felt it move while we were riding in the truck. I don't think we had even gotten out of Tuscaloosa yet. It is so cool! I still told Jake he couldn't feel it yet, but now I'm wondering if he can (?) Sometimes I think I can feel it when I press on my stomach, but I thought it was too early for that. I've tried to let him feel a couple of times, but of course it quits right when he puts his hand there. I can't wait to start feeling him/her move more and more!

I read on BabyCenter.com today that Baby G is about the size of a "large heirloom tomato"! (pretty specific). Last week it was a bell pepper and the week before it was a turnip :) I'm 19 weeks today and getting pretty anxious to find out what the gender is! Only three more weeks. I keep dreaming about the baby and it's usually a boy in my dreams. Does that mean anything? I also had a dream that a random babysitter we had tried to steal the baby, so hopefully dreams don't mean too much!

"Push! Push!"

The sun is usually in my eyes this time of year when I walk from my office to my car in the afternoon. As was the case yesterday...this will be my excuse.

I'm in the parking lot and there are three Bama Dining workers a few rows away from me, walking in the same direction. One of the guys looks over my way and starts yelling, "Push! Push!" I tried to ignore it, but he did it again. I didn't know what to say and I was very puzzled at how he could even tell I was pregnant...plus I did not 'get' this joke.

I decide just to smile at them and they all smiled back.

Seconds later I glanced over my right shoulder and saw one of their Bama Dining co-workers pushing a food cart up a ramp to go into a building.

Oh..........

Update on Baby G

I had a doctor's appointment yesterday (17 weeks, 1 day) and all is well with Baby G! Heart rate was 144 bpm and I still just LOVE hearing that sound! I have already gained 10 lbs. That part, I did not love. I know I'm supposed to gain and the doctor said I was within normal range right now, but I feel like I'm going to be one of those 100 lb-ers by the time September rolls around. Maybe not.

Jake was not going to come to this appointment because it's hard for him to get back in town on Tuesdays. However, when I was sitting in the waiting room I glanced up from my magazine when I saw someone sit next to me and it was him! He rearranged his schedule to be there...and I never once asked or made him feel like he needed to be there. I encouraged him to just work since there wasn't even a sonogram. He is so sweet. He's been reading his Expectant Father book at night :) He rubbed my feet (without prompting) on Monday night and is all about doing house projects...he's nesting too!

So about this 144 bpm...everything online says under 140 is a boy and over 140 is a girl. But 144 is not quite high enough for me to think girl. Plus, they thought I was a boy because of my heart rate (and I was born on 4/1...April Fool's!) Most people are thinking boy...Kyle Valentine and my sister (and her b.f.) are especially confident it's a boy. Haylee's boss is 100% sure it's a girl (very confident!), and Mary Loyd and Tasha (at work) think girl.

I think it's whichever one I'm thinking about at the time. And that's the one I want too! I have always wanted both and can think of so many fun things about each, so I really, truly do not care. We should know the gender at our next appointment in May!

We've been continuing to call and get on waiting lists at local preschools. To date, we are on eight waiting lists and I'm still waiting to hear back from two places. It is crazy how booked these places are...all of them! It makes me nervous if I think about it too long, but I know God will work out this detail.

As for updates with me, I still feel really good. One minor complaint is that I've been having lower back pain which I know will only get worse. The only thing I can do about it is strengthening exercises. Boo. I still like fruit a lot, but clementines are slowly being replaced with other things. I LOVE waffles for breakfast (whole wheat right now) with strawberries and bananas sliced on top. Yummy. Today I had a hot coffee for the first time since I found out (decaf and non-fat). Haven't wanted it other than two times when I got it iced, but this morning I could not take my mind off Starbuck's.

That's all for now...I think I'm caught up blogging for a little while :)

Honors Day Drama

Scenario: Last Friday was Honors Day at The University of Alabama. This is a big deal (to people involved anyway; otherwise it's just a day with no classes). Girls wear fancy hats and parents come to celebrate the honors achieved throughout the year. It's held on the Mound which is on the Quad. I think a residence hall burned down during the Civil War and the grass that grew over the bricks that were left created a "mound." No one is allowed on the Mound except on Honors Day...it's like a stage.

I am the advisor for the Anderson Society, a prestigious senior honor society at UA. Members are selected based on academics, leadership, community service, etc. Never would I have actually been selected for a group like this, but I can certainly "advise."

Since they only put out a few chairs that are mostly for parents and students, I was standing under a tree with some friends/colleagues to watch. I was in heels which was probably my first mistake. They weren't too high, though, and I'm still on the search for good black summer shoes.

About an hour into the ceremony I told my friend, Sara, that I felt light-headed. I'm thinking it was because I had stood too long and my back was hurting. She gave me her arm and as I grabbed it my vision started going! She and my other friend, Corrie, asked if I needed to sit down and I said, "Yes, but I can't walk by myself." About that time my hearing started going, too! They walked me over to a bench and I quickly felt better, then Corrie escorted me back to my office. I was totally fine the rest of the day. Didn't even see the Anderson Society induct their new members, which was the whole purpose of my attending.

Okay, first of all it was a little embarrassing they had to both walk me to sit down because I'm still not obviously pregnant to the average stranger. I just looked like a crazy person. Second, I'm SO GLAD I didn't actually pass out because the University probably would've called an ambulance to come just for precautionary purposes.

I could just picture all these parents around, girls in hats and dresses, ME in a dress, and an ambulance on the Mound. Thank you, Lord, for letting me escape that embarrassment!!! Whew.

My Sister is Funny

(If you can't tell, I'm trying to get caught up on stuff I want to put on the blog, but can't do it all in one interval.)

Last week I talked to my sister, Haylee (aka, "Gissy"...long story). When I picked up the phone I had not even had time to say 'Hello?' and Hank (the fur baby) barked! We both laughed and then there was this conversation:

Haylee: Hank just answered your phone!

Tiffany: I know, that's hilarious!

Haylee: Duff (her boyfriend's last name/nick name) said, "Hank is your secretary."

:: laughter::

Tiffany: Yeah, he's the secretary and we have a receptionist coming in September!

:: laughter::, interrupted by...

Haylee: "Wait...does that mean it's a girl?"

I lost it. I couldn't breathe for the next five minutes because I was laughing so hard. It cracks me up that she a) thought I would actually tell her that way b) thought it was a girl just because I said receptionist c) suddenly totally forgot that we had JUST made a joke about Hank being a secretary!

Of all people to make that stereotype, a woman who has lived in NYC for nine years, worked as a receptionist for several, and knows plenty of male receptionists :)

Yoga Hormones

A week ago today I attended a yoga class at the gym where we're members. I try to do this as much as I can, but it's only offered one or two days during the week at times when I'm not at work. I would go today, but have an evening program instead.

One of the instructors is also pregnant, even more than me. Most of the time I really like her, but last week was different. She rubbed me the wrong way. I do not do all the poses exactly like I'm supposed to because a) I'm not great at yoga yet, and b) I'm scared I'll twist the baby into or fall over or something. She came and corrected my form which is normal and has happened before, but I felt like it was one too many times.

I started crying. During the middle of a one hour yoga class. Thank goodness the lights were low. I'm thinking only the two people next to me noticed, if even them. I tried to stop, but then cried because I was crying in yoga class.

I think the instructor forgot I was pregnant, because after mentioning it to her (pre-tears), she started telling me some alternate ways to do things like she did last time.

I told her I wasn't comfortable lying on my back because they tell you not to and she said, "How far along are you?" I said, "Four months." She said, "It's after four months you aren't supposed to do that." Maybe so, but I still didn't do it. Probably spite at that point.

I thought for sure I'd really let loose once I got in the car, but I was totally done crying at that point. I guess I just got my fix during class.

Pregnancy hormones make you a little crazy. Just a little.

28th Birthday

On April 1st I turned 28 years old. I'm still practicing getting used to that...not because I feel old, but because it's hard for me to change numbers. At least it's an even number. I preferred 24 the most though.

Anyway, Jake and I went out to eat that night with some of our T'town (aka, tailgaiting) friends: Beth and Bryan Oliver, Casey and Bradley Barnes, and Ashley and Landon Waid. We went to Bahmhower's Wings. Jake and I hardly ever go there, but for some reason it's what I wanted! It was good, too.

I'm thinking as a general rule, pregnant birthdays are just more fun. I was 15 weeks and 3 days this day. I loved sharing my b-day this year!

Courtney and Lily's Baby Shower

On Sunday, March 28th Lily Hall had her very first shower! Missy Johnson and I hosted the shower for Courtney and Danny and Lily got some very cute things...mostly all pink, of course :) The shower was held at Mrs. Pam's (Missy's mom) beautiful new house. Courtney looked so cute and the food was really good, if I do say so myself! ;) Missy and I gave Lily a children's Bible...pink leather with her name written in silver. I thought it was a unique gift, but that was one of three Bibles that day. The child will be saved, but with no diaper.

I saw Courtney again this passed weekend at Erica (Tullos) Peterson's wedding. Erica was a gorgeous bride, but that was no surprise. I also got to see Nicole Bridges Harmon (haven't seen her in years I think), Kelly Walker Cheatham, and Lana. I love and miss my ECCC girls :) I think that will probably be the last time I see Courtney without little Lily...she'll be here around May 10th!!

Spring Break Happenings

A few weeks ago was Spring Break at The University of Alabama...one of my FAVORITE parts of working there! I convinced my mom to take a vacation day (it was terribly hard to do) and we went shopping in Birmingham. The one maternity store we went in was A Pea in the Pod...the most expensive one I know about. But...they had some good sales, so I wasn't too, too opposed to letting her buy me my first few pieces :) They had a "bump-to-be" in the waiting room...how funny!! I successfully freaked out my sister with a text of this.

The weekend following Spring Break was when I finally got to get together with Lana and Jessica to celebrate little Lee's arrival. We meant to do it before he was born (in August), and then we decided to do it in December, and finally we committed in March. It was late, but at least we had fun! We had lunch at Edgar's Bakery...my first time there, but hopefully not my last. Cupcakes are wonderful!

After our spa day, we dropped Lana off at Jack's parents and got to see Ford really quick. He is SO cute and such a little flirt right now! Jessica's boys were visiting family in Atlanta, so no Peanut pics this time.

Oh, and Lana and Jessica both let me borrow a ton of maternity clothes...thank you both SO MUCH! It is such a big help and much appreciated!
