This sweet baby boy turned 5.5 on March 21st, and registered for kindergarten two days later. It was not really sad, but ask me again in August and I'm sure I'll have a different perspective.
The school and people we met were very impressive. It's a primary school, so only grades kindergarten through second (plus a couple of pre-k classes). Next year they expect to have TWELVE kindergarten classrooms!
He was a little nervous. Jake met us there and we picked up Hadley later so we could focus on him. A few observations/comments from Collins:
- The most exciting thing about kindergarten = no naps. (Documenting this so he'll believe me when he's 16, 22, 34...)
- Kindergarten looks hard based on the blue fence around the softball field when you turn in the entrance.
- He asked the principal, "The first time I make a bad choice, do I go to the principal's office?" She told him, "No, not the first time." "If I keep doing it?" "Well, you're not going to keep doing it because you're going to make good choices!"
- Also, he confessed to the assistant principal, "I don't know how to work a computer." He reassured him he'll learn in school :)
Mrs. Misty (his Sunday School teacher) was the kindergarten teacher who did his brief assessment!
The assessment inspired him to do a little more writing.
That conversation about the principal's office...
Deciding he wants to play on that playground! We've driven by it before so he's been excited for a while!
What a lunch room! :)
Didn't know a soul and it didn't bother him a bit. I would have rather died at that age than play alongside kids I didn't know!
Testing out a chair in Mrs. Misty's room.
Had to go check out the office :)
