Trick-or-Treat!

I'm determined to post about Halloween before Thanksgiving. Right before, but still before.

Trick-or-treating was...brief. For Hadley at least. It had been great weather all week, but turned cold and windy right before candy time. She only got to go to about four houses before we brought her inside to bathe and get ready for bed. But she enjoyed the time she spent trick-or-treating!

Jake took Collins around the neighborhood to get more candy than he would ever need. He also got some cool things like slap bracelets, light-up necklaces, and glow-in-the-dark stuff!

It was fun!

Hadley wore her daddy's pumpkin costume that Grammy made! :) The hat didn't stay on long. At all.

Luckily, our next-door neighbors were the only other people getting ready for trick-or-treating at 5pm like we were.

Getting some candy from Mrs. Kat!

Collins and Jackson

"I'll just sit right here and have this sucker."

Back to playing...

At the preschool Halloween party earlier that day:

Singing!

Hadley Happenings

  • "Goooo!"
  • "Bush-ee-tee" (brush your teeth)
  • If we say "one," she says "dooo!" (two)
  • What's a dinosaur say? "rawwww"
  • What's a truck say? "vroom vroom"
  • What's a duck say? "kack kack"
  • "dog"
  • "ball"
  • "bow"
  • Loves music and dancing! Will get down!! One afternoon an Usher song came on in the car. I thought she was crying, but she was just that happy to hear a good beat!
  • "uh-oh"
  • "noe" (nose)
  • I think she's going to be into gymnastics. Loves to be turned upside down and throws her head back to do it again immediately! You have be to careful or she'll just fall!
  • To that last point and the fact that she's pretty fearless, Haylee says we need to get her in gymnastics soon. She says that kind of attitude will be cute on an athlete, not on a diva! haha
  • Loves Collins! Says his name, but it sounds nothing at all like it. Except the way it's sing-songy like how we call him :)
  • "Lawa" (Laura, her teacher)
  • "Auj-ee" (Audrey, her other teacher)
  • "red"
  • "bwoo" (blue)
  • "yahdow" (yellow)
  • "pupal" (purple)
  • She does sign language for "more." They teach them that at school, but I didn't know that till I just noticed her doing it. I think it's supposed to be finger tips touching, but Hadley points with her right hand to touch her left palm (repeatedly). Sweet! (but she won't actually say "more" right now)
  • "Poppa"
  • "Maw Maw"
  • "Paw Paw"
  • (still working on Grammy! And I don't think any grandparents have heard her say their names; she likes to do it when they aren't around!)
  • Loves tomatoes, just like her brother! And they both love blueberries. And M&Ms.
  • The girl is a pack rat with her food. She'll take pieces off her tray and slowly slip them down by her bottom in her chair. We'll catch her and say, "Hadley...no, your food goes on your tray. Eat." Then she maintains eye contact while even more slowly doing the same thing. Maybe if we're looking at her eyes we won't notice her hand?
  • "truck"
  • "g'job!" (good job)
  • "ach baks" (lunch box)
  • "paci"
  • "baby"
  • Wears a size 5 diaper and mostly 18-24 month clothes. Shoe size is 4 or 5, some 6s. I think I just included this info in a recent post. Oh well.

Do you have food under there? "Who...me??"

Guilty as charged!!

Just hangin' out with her brother...

Church Fall Festival

The kids and I went to the FPBC fall festival the Wednesday before Halloween! I was able to take off a little early, dress them in the bathroom/nursery at church, stuff a hotdog down their throats, and tote Hadley around church in her heavy costume with multiple bags of stuff while Collins played games and waited in line. It was awesome.

Sorry, for the cynicism. We can call that a 'keepin' it real' moment. ;)

It really was a fun event, just (selfishly) would have been better had Jake been in town to help! He's working out of town a lot these days and is pooped a good bit of the time. Bless him.

My pink poodle!

And my Raphael, the Ninja Turtle who doesn't like his mask.

Hadley didn't exactly feel like taking a picture with Katie. Love Katie's face here!

Collins and Ms. Kristy, one of his Sunday School teachers!

The face painting lady told us to use Vaseline to remove the paint. When we got home and took a bath Collins kept asking me if I was going to use Clorox like the lady said. Ha!

Conversations with Collins

  • "Look, everybody got crooked." (traffic jam)
  • "Sky scratcher" (sky scraper)
  • "When I grow up, I'm gonna be 1000, 100, 60, 70, 80, 70, 80, 60, 100. Is that big?"
  • "...but not bigger than God." (has to verify every big thing by this standard)
  • I asked him one night, "Do you want to say your prayers?" He hugged me and said, "I just wanna love on you." :)
  • Discussing our neighbor's broken leg and how it happened, "That breaks my heart...don't tell me that any more."
  • I was singing along to one of 'his' songs in the car and he asked me to please stop singing. I said, "Okay, but sometimes I like to sing." He said, "Not today; maybe tomorrow."
  • We continue to look for certain things on the way to school every morning: the dog in the fence on Main Street, any and all cement trucks, and sometimes we speak to Clifford (Rusty, the big red dog in downtown Northport. Who clearly should have been named Clifford.)
  • "I spy with my little eye something...fog." "Is it the fog?" "How did you know?!"
  • One afternoon we were at a stop light and the man in the truck beside us had his window down. Collins said, "Mama, he waved at me. Can I talk to him?" I said, "No..." "Why?" "Because, he needs to pay attention to traffic and the light." "But that would make God happy." "Okay, talk to him." So he did :)
  • Discussing another friend with a broken limb, "He had to go to the hospital and the doctor put his arm back on." "I'm not sure that's how it works; his arm didn't actually fall off, you know...it's just broken on the inside." "Mama, I promise it broke off."
  • "Can we hear the kindergarten song?" This took me a while to figure out. He had a mini meltdown because I didn't know the song he meant. I asked him to sing it and it's one that talks about adding or something. Obvious to him that adding = kindergarten song!
  • Refers to a song with letters and spelling as the "number song." Close enough.
  • "Mommy, what are you doing with those baby traps?" "They're gates! Baby gates..."
  • When he got his face painted at the church fall festival the lady painting told me to use Vaseline to help remove the paint. Collins was hoping we didn't have any Vaseline at our house, but I assured him that I did! Once we got home he asked, "Are you gonna use Clorox on my face?" Asked it several times. Finally I convinced him we would NOT be using Clorox on his face!
  • Jake was working with his bow one day and let go too soon, popping himself on the forearm. It made a big whelp which is very interesting to little boys. I asked, "Collins, did you see Daddy's bo-bo?" "Where?" "On his arm." "That's just his scarf..." "No, his scar is on the other arm."
  • One Saturday morning Collins came in the kitchen and proudly told Jake and me, "My knee popped!" I asked, "What does that mean?" "That I'm like a mom and dad!" #weevensoundold
  • He told me one day, "I saw a dinosaur." "When?" "When I was a little boy." "Really?"......"Nooo, maybe I didn't." "I think you probably didn't."
  • "Mommy, when I get big I want to sleep with Ariel." ("what?!?!,' but only in my head) "You know, the mermaid." "Why is that?" "Because she's pretty." "What does it mean to sleep with someone you think is pretty?" "Mamaaa...when I get 60, 70, 80, 70, 60, 100..." "Oh..." (surely it's not time for that conversation...so I changed the subject.)
  • As I peeled a cucumber for our salad: "Mommy, can I shuck that cucumber?" ha!
  • He weighs himself frequently so he can watch the digital scale go haywire in my bathroom. He weighs about 40-42 lbs! Still takes reflux medicine, 5 mLs twice a day. We are having an upper GI scope done on Monday to try and get some answers.
  • Favorite toys right now are: Ninja Turtles (engine turtles, as he says), super heros, random stuff he can play with in the dirt, and books. He also likes his big sword and rocks, sticks, other special things like that.
  • Not doing great eating breakfast and dinner right now. He eats a good variety, but will take a bite or two and say he's finished, "...can I have a snack?" Um, no. He drinks milk and apple juice most often, but also likes water. Oh, and likes "Lemon Dew," but we try to avoid that ;)
  • Wears mostly a size 4T in pants and a 5T in shirts. Shoe size is somewhere around 10 or 11 I think. I should really know that.
  • Still obsessed with the color green. I bought him a new green jacket this week and he loves it. Says he's the Green Lantern (a super hero).
  • Sweet boy! :)
