ERrrrr....

So, Jake has been sick. Really sick. For a week. He went out of town last week on a work trip. It was in South Florida, which is already a stressful scenario. He started feeling bad on Tuesday, then started vomiting and running a high fever (as in 103 when he was able to finally buy a thermometer) on Wednesday. Poor thing had to drive himself 3 1/2 hours to get to the airport since he wasn't able to make the trip from Fort Lauderdale to Orlando the day before. Then ride on a plane. He could tell he was dehydrated, still felt nauseated, and still had fever. Thankfully, it was a direct flight.

My mom offered to leave work early on Friday so that she could drive me to Birmingham and I could drive Jake home. That was a huge help! Mrs. Wilda kept Collins a couple of hours Friday afternoon while we did that, then Mom picked him up and stayed with him Friday night and Saturday.

Jake and I got into town around 6pm Friday and went straight to the ER. And waited. And waited. He wanted to lie down so badly, but they'd had several accidents come in right before us, so there was no room. Finally, they put him in an exam room, did blood work, and started an IV of fluid. They said one of his kidneys was functioning at about half what it was supposed to. Around 2am we got to our hospital room. I was tired, but not nearly as tired as Jake.

It turns out it was a really, really bad virus that is apparently going around Tuscaloosa. Jake followed up with his primary care doctor yesterday. They did more blood work, but the doctor thinks it's just a virus that will last 7-10 days. It's been right at 7. Jake stayed home from work yesterday and today trying to rest. He is worn out.

Fortunately (ish), the virus is mostly affecting adults, so I'm hoping Collins won't get. Also hoping I won't get it and appreciate prayers in either of those directions! Collins' birthday is Friday and his party is Saturday, so that would really stink (no pun intended) to have to cancel because of a stomach virus.

Leave us alone, virus! Errrr.....
